St. Edmund's Stoulton
St. Edmund's Stoulton

This ancient church lies in a Conservation Area at the end of a quiet lane which was once a busy street with the village school, the Manor Farm and the first village Post Office.

Surrounded by the churchyard with village graveyard the building dates from Norman times with flat buttresses, round headed and later 13C styled windows and a tower, rebuilt in 1936, housing a ring of 6 bells.

Inside the light and airy space is divided into a nave and chancel separated by a simple Norman chancel arch. Pick up a leaflet to discover the story of the church and village.

Look for:

  • The blind arcading, decorative stonework above the external doors.
  • The scratch dials and consecration crosses on the door jambs
  • The plain Norman font hewn from a single piece of stone.
  • The textiles - kneelers and altar furnishing made by local people.
  • The stained glass and memorials to the relatives of the Reverend Hamilton Kingsford, vicar of Stoulton for over 40 years!.
